The scratchpad to rule them all.. For now.

One of the things that really helped me untangle the mess that becomes my brain during a longer session is having very fast and smooth access to a place where I can dump thoughts and ideas and get back to the topic at hand.

I've tried quite a few things... Pen and paper, a workspace with a notepad open "permanently", in-editor scratchpads - but they all lacked in some area. Either I couldn't really access the notes later on (sorry paper...) or I just had to go out of the current mental space in order to get there (like jumping into an editor when in a discussion/meeting).

When I moved away from macOS and over to my current linux setup, I found that there's easy ways to get pretty much everything I need out of something very simple!

So - I now use a hyprland special workspace! All this really does is open a floating (and by default never screenshared!) workspace with a small neovim instance, inside my obsidian vault and creates or opens my scratchpad for the day. This is never more than a keystroke away and by making sure the workspace can just pop on top for a moment while dumping means that I can get thoughts out of my head and locked away safely without thinking!

Maybe that's what I really like - not having to think? :)

Out.
